People generally vote for candidates, not parties. If a third party could field a well known centrist candidate and if it had the funds, they would have a good chance to take the White House. On the local level third party candidates do get voted into office. Jesse Ventura, a third party candidate, is one well known example of people voting for a candidate and disregarding party affiliation. |
