Default Rental Hull Insurance - for a week or just for a day?

So maybe this was asked before, but I looked and couldn't find an
answer...

Say you're on vacation somewhere in the continental US and you want to
rent a Skyhawk for a day. Assuming you don't need a renter's policy for
the rest of the year, is there a place you can get rental insurance for
just the 1 day?

In other words, is it possible to get renter's hull insurance for a
plane rental - similar to the way they offer optional collision and
liability insurance with a rental car?

I've never heard of such an option. Many FBOs, though, have insurance
policies that explicitly name the class of rental pilots as among those
insured by the policy. So you could try to rent from such an FBO when you
travel.

Almost guaranteed that your owner's policy will cover you while renting
a similar aircraft. Check with your agent though.

It's cheaper just to keep the FBO's instructor in the airplane during
your rental (they'll require a checkout no matter what) so the CFI is
the PIC and the FBO's insurance handles the flight(s).

All the best,

Rental Insurance is not to expensive, I was surprised about how cheap it was
when I got mine. Avemco is even cheaper! And it is pro rated with them get
it for a few months and cancel and you will get the unused portion of your
premium, at least that is what the agent told me. A policy for me at Avemco
was going to be around 400 bucks a year, but that was with 25,000 hull
coverage. I went with another company and got 40,000 hull for about 550.

I don't think so. I have to pay for a year and up front.

But are you saying you're a pilot and don't have insurance? If you do
have insurance, doesn't it extend to the rental plane?

I pay a bit more than $600 for $40K but probably have higher
liability.

Anyhow, that's the ballpark.
