See if you can register it as an antique as some states have special tax
exemptions on them as in cars. Any vehicles greater than 50 years old
should be considered as such, although my Nationl Guard helicopter is
pushing that age. RTL

IIRC the age requirement is 30 years in California. That probably makes
at least half the GA fleet eligible. My plane (1958) definitely fits in -
and ZERO property taxes sure helps make flying affordable.

30 Yrs in Kansas also. Our '65 Mooney went from $1400 per year to $0 when
it hit its 30th birthday. It is considered a "classic".

Don't know if your anywhere near a state border. I heard a story once about
a guy who based his airplane in another state, largely because it was the
closest airport. Since the registration gave the owner's home address, the
owner's home state insisted he owed the tax there. The owner insisted he
would pay the tax in the state where the plane was perminately based, which
happened to be much lower. Most people expected the owner would win, though
I never did hear how it turned out.
