Default Importing a glider to Australia

Am thinking of shipping my glider to OZ as I am planning
to relocate there(again) next year. Can anyone update
me on the current situation regarding tax/duties when
entering Australia?

Are you planning on moving here permanantly or just bringing the
glider for the summer?

Last I brought in a glider there were no import duties. We do have a
form of Value Added Tax (called GST - Goods and Services Tax). If only
bringing a glider for the summer you may need to post a bond. If
moving permanently you may get an exemption for personal items like
gliders that you already own.

Graeme Cant opines:

'You may be able to claim an exemption if it was woven
by indigenous natives
from local materials
in a developing country
(including the
trailer).

Dear Graeme,

Excellent research. Important to see it that way.
Insights are joys to consider and to have benefit
therefrom.

Surely then, that would include Slovenia built Discus

and DG 300- 303 and similar
Slovenian gliders etc, right ?

It is all the

Product made by Indigenous Natives
(so let magistrate's advocate prove they are not,
as one offers photographs into evidence)

Asserting workers and business product is from
Neanderthallian
and CroMagnonallian Indigenous Roots
with historic admixture
salting in genetic stock from Roman Rule, Mongolian
Mavarics of Attilla the Hun and GhenghisKhan, Germanic
Hanseatics, Slavic Slaves, Terribulus Tartar, Turkic
Transgressors, Surrepticious Scythians, Persian Perpetrators,
Olephantian Africani, Gracious Greeks, Froggy Franks,
Filial Phonecians and such
in due course
to War Actions
and
adventurings
over the march of time.

Thereby,
one may clearly offer argument before the
tax magistrate
and in Revenue Court.

Yes indeed,
indigenous workers,
woven cloth,
local resinous materials,
developing country
et al .

Truly, it fits.

All by the Grace of God. Documented. With historical
evidences by archeological, anthropological, archeo-geopolitical
and linguistic literature to be called into support.

The lesser the better, as it may be contradictory,
with invective, being of academic origin.

Yet, It may be argument acceptable within the the matrix
of good and clear common tax law and kind and just
administration thereof, as may be expected and whose
benefits the world has enjoyed immensely since tax
collection first began.

Have fun Graeme. Always wishing yall Down Under the
very best.

Dancing on clouds,

Keep it up!

I immigrated to Australia one year ago and did not have
to pay any GST for my ASW-27 which was declared as
part of my household and which I own since 1998.
I don't know how long you have to own the glider to be
able to get it GST free into Australia.
4 years in my case for sure worked.
Gerry Brasher might know more about it.
