How to get started on getting an license?

Hello all. I'm interested in become a pilot. But I'm confused with all
the information. Where should I get started? Any recommandation?

offer exactly this sort of advice. Google Groups can help you find them.

Also, you may want to look at resources such as www.beapilot.com or
www.aopa.org for specific details.

Well here in New Zealand what one would typically do is head out to your
local field and talk to the folk at a flying school there.

Visit a couple of smaller airports in your area. Look for what is
usually called the FBO or general aviation terminal. Inquire at three
or four places and see if one feels comfortable to you. Chances are one
or two won't click with you, but hopefully one will. Same thing with
flight instructors. You need to find one that fits your personality and
this may require trying out more than one.

You could consider getting a Sport Pilot license and see if you really like
flying.
The cost of getting the Sport Pilot license is about half of a Private Pilot
license and you still get to log your time. You can then always go on to
get the Private but statistics show a Sport Pilot license will cover the
kind of flying most pilots do. And the Light Sport Aircraft are more fun
anyway.

I can't disagree with the principle. The problem may be finding a sport
plane and an instructor put together.

That was the most uncalled for asshole answer I've seen in a post on this or
any other newsgroup. Where, in the OP, do you get that the poster thinks
that? The AOPA should put out a hit on you Stubby. People wonder why there
is a reduction in new students.
