That doesn't work, you can reposition to a "departure point"

Absolutely. The 250 miles is a minimum, not the maximum. That's why I flew to
the Bahamas.

Back in the old days of the late 60's-early 70's may
cross-country flights as a student included a non-stop from
Springfield, IL (KSPI) to Pittsburg, KS to see the Helio
factory.
Later, as a private pilot I flew from Springfield to
Newcastle, WY, this flight included about 5 hours at night.

Later, as an instructor working at Tulsa, I took my students
on a night cross-country from Tulsa to OKC.

If I ever get around to going for it, I'll use the flight back from Moultrie
when I picked up my Maule.

Coffee is only a way of stealing time that should by rights belong to
your slightly older self.

He asked for suggestions not practical ones.... ;-)
I have actually been to Key West and back with the Maule. It was a slow
trip down head wind the whole way 8+ hours in the air.

I think Lakeland, FL will be much much too long for his need. :)

My longest XC trip was from Manassas, VA to Richmond, VA and back at
night. Not at all as long as yours, but then I'm a renter and I really
can't afford to fly that much. Helicopters are expensive to rent.
