Default Lakewood (NJ) Airport in Danger

Lakewood NJ is looking into selling its airport, which it purchased
about a decade ago, to be used for other uses. The airport commission
isn't happy about that, but the municipal government has its own ideas...

----
Township Attorney Steven Secare said Lakewood may be able to sell the
192-acre airport along Cedar Bridge Avenue to a private developer,
despite having accepted Federal Aviation Administration and state grant
money to first buy the airport nine years ago.
.. . .

Mayor Charles Cunliffe said that investigating is the only action the
committee is taking at this time. Cunliffe said committee members — he
will not name who — have privately talked about different options for
the airport, including developing it for retail or commercial use, using
it to expand the Lakewood Industrial Park or building housing.

Get your local FAA Airports Office onto this NOW! Also AOPA.

They take a very dim view of such actions and, in the past, have
informed the locals that they not only have to reimburse the FAA for
Airport Grants, but that they would have to share the profits from the
land sale.

If FAA put in 90% to purchase the property, FAA would be entitled to 90%
of the sale.
