Default AnyWhere Map w/Dell Axim

Hi Guys,

I am in the market for a new hand held GPS.

Looking at Garmin, Lowrance and AvMap, but just recently found the AnyWhere
Map Software, with using a BlueTooth GPS and Dell Axim Pocket PC.

To me it looks like a great combination of screen size, ease of use and
"ugradebility". Cost certainly not bad either at $399 for the Axim, $95 for
the software and about $85 for a Bt388 GPS. xm Wheather is an available
upgrade too.

Certainly would appreciate some feed back from users.

Have a great day flying!

Peter

The iPhone is currently planned to be closed to third party apps, and as
far as I can tell the only map app bundled will be Google Maps. Since you
can't get a GSM data connection at altitude, that would be pretty useless.

When the iPhone was first announced, I was determined to be first in line
for it, but when Jobs said that it would be closed to third party apps, my
fervour has almost completely died off. I'll stick with my Treo - I can't
get to Google while flying, but I can use CoPilot and FlightMaster.

A friend of mine has the Anywhere Map and it is great. His setup also
has XM Weather and the approach plates.
I have flown this system quite a bit and have to give it a big thumbs
up. Like it much better than the Garmin 430 GPS in the Seneca II and
C-210 I fly.

Why?

A growing number, after some careful consideration, think the I-Phone
(IF they get to even use the name) might be a bust..

They should have talked to some users B 4 they built a "touch" screen
into a cell phone, - what fun that is going to be!

Oh well, we will see....

Be patient. As soon as the two-year contract with AT&T runs out, it will
open up. Not to mention that it will be hacked and Skype will be one of
the first apps to be coded.

I have AWmap running on an Ipaq with Wxworx and it's a good system.
Setup is a little more kludgy than the Garmin 396, with separate units
that have to talk to each other. If you own, you can just install it
and pretty much forget it, but it would be a pain with a rental
aircraft.

Control Vision has much improved the stability of the system.

I sometimes see used ones on Ebay as people switch to Garmin.

The big question is: "How well will it work with gloves on?"

Why? I use the touch screen on my Treo all the time. One of the nifty
features of the iPhone is that when you raise it to your ear, the touch
screen turns off so your ear doesn't start hitting buttons.

No third party apps. Verizon turned them down. The iPhone is already dead.
