Default Any New York City pilots?

Perhaps someone from the NYC area can identify for me a closed airport. It
appeared quite large from the air, so it must have been someplace important
at some time. It's marked as a closed airport on the New York terminal
chart, on the 260 radial from JFK, near the OGY NDB.

Does anyone know the history of this place?

Floyd Bennett was the first to fly over the north pole (maybe):

certain

You're right. According to a NYPD pilot I spoke with last year, they base
their helos there.

I'm glad it gets some use. No airport should be allowed to deteriorate like
that, though.
