Go *even* slower?

I thought of:
Tie down outside
Avoid the cost of the AD
Avoid the cost of a refinish
Prefers metal over glass.
Race 1-26?
Nope, not in a 1-36.
Since a 1-34 would provide all of these with similar low speed
performance to the Grob, similar cost, and still be a Schweizer, he must
just want to go slower.
:-)

If he wanted to go slower he would have included the PW-5.
Maybe he's just drunk too much 2-buck chuck.

Maybe not so hard to understand if you knew something about him and his
wife - Joann and Charles Shaw have been active 1-26 pilots for decades,
with many records and awards between them. Here's the lead-in from this
page:

http://www.126association.org/03clybrn.htm

" It is my pleasure to announce the winner of the 2003 H. Marshall
Claybourn trophy. As it has many times in the past, the trophy this year
returns to Hobbs, New Mexico, origin of so many great staright distance
flights. The champion for 2003, however, is first time winner Joann
Shaw, who on August 27 flew 301.96 miles to a landing near Elkhart,
Kansas. Chase crew was 11-time Claybourn winner and husband Charles.
What a team! Congratulations Jo!!! "

Joann also holds 10 US Feminine records in a Nimbus 2,including a 1000K.
Check the SSA website for more info.

Did they win the Grob in a poker game?
Racing for pink slips with his 1-26 and the Grob driver thought he found
a sucker? (That'd be a story!)

Didn't Jo and Chas own and operate a nimbus 3 for some years? They must
have had sopme reasons for going back top 1-26 and PW-5?

well.. if you knew Charles, you'd know he was posting it for a friend..
who realizes that the AD on the Grob is not worth fixing if he really wants
a 1-26 that has no AD problems..

Charles and Jo already have two excellent 1-26s

And the 1-26 owners are probably wondering why anyone would want to
trade for the Grob...

They never left the 1-26.

Jo just flew the nimbus 3 for a while and got her 1000K in it.

1000K is still a little bit far for a 1-26, since the longest straight line
is around 440 miles.
