Vietnam pilots retell stories

(EXCERPT) BY MICK WALSH Staff Writer

Two things immediately capture your eye when looking at the cover of
the latest book on Vietnam: the title and the author's name.

"Pucker Factor 10" is the name of the book, authored by North
Carolinian James Joyce.

Obviously, this is not the Joyce of "Ulysses" fame.

He's the Jim Joyce of Waynesville, N.C., president and owner of Green
Mountain International, a manufacturer of products for the
construction industry. And a former helicopter pilot -- both Huey
"slicks" and Huey "gunships" -- flying missions in Vietnam with the
227th Assault Helicopter Battalion of the 1st Cav Division at An Khe
in the Central Highlands from July 1966 to June 1967.

by those who served, "Pucker Factor" is well written.

He takes us from his college days in Cleveland to his Army flight days
at Fort Rucker, to his 1st Cav training at Fort Benning, to his year
in Vietnam and into his post-Army career.
