What is Purpose of Sports Class Nationals?
Probably a naive question but wouldnt using assigned
area tasks even things up for gliders at the top and bottom end of the handicaps? |

I totally agree, but it depends how you feel about
Assigned Area Tasks. I personally like them, because they allow you to make the best of the day for YOUR level of ability and YOUR glider's performance. They also allow to to extend the task if the weather is better than forecast, and to shorten it if it is less good. Much better than flying round an impossible task in poor weather, knowing that you are going to land out sooner or later, possibly a long way from home. However some pilots absolutely detest them because it forces them to actually think while they are flying, and they make it more difficult for them to leech off better pilots. Other pilots just prefer flying pre-declared tasks.
