Default Pensacola Museum question.

I might be going to the Penacola Naval Air museum this September with my
folks. I have a question. Did the hurricanes destoryed the museum? Thanks
in advance

The museum survived with little damage. The outside exhibits did not do
that well. Some were mostly destroyed, some damaged moderately and some
suffered little damage.

Museum itself was ready to open as soon as the base was cleared enough to
host visitors. See

While you are in the Pensacola area, make sure you see some of
the other airplane museums in the area. There is a great USAF
musuem at Eglin AFB, about 45 minutes east of Pensacola. And
to the west is the USS Alabama at Battleship Memorial Park,
just east of Mobile. Battleship Park has new aircraft museum
that includes an SR-71 (as does the USAF Armaments Museum at
Eglin AFB).

Is the Eglin AFB museum open to the public? Since 9-11 several bases have
had to restrict museum attendance to DOD personnel or to school/civic groups
(e.g Peterson AFB and Dover AFB, among others). I'd love to visit Eglin's
if there are no such restrictions.

Good question. Don't know the answer to that one, I'd call them in
the morning if I were you:

http://www.eglin.af.mil/phone-listing.htm

By the way, the operator at the first number can help you if none of
the others quite match what you want. There have to be a whole lot
more phone numbers for a base that size.

One more thing, I'm pretty sure Eglin has an airshow in about a
month. Timing is everything
