have found at least three web sites which have published this same

Also, the movie clip answer doesn't explain the difference in the
canopies.

Based on the dates of the movie, wondering if these are P-51H or P-51K
models, which do have the slightly different canopies.

showing B-29/F-13 at Morotai from the AU war memorial files.
was able to obtain some data from NARA's records on the 3rd PRS
concering those photos and why those planes were there...

You might have the answer, they could be H or K models, difficult to tell without seeing the full aircraft.

Also according to records from AFHRA , it was a request to the 20th AF from
MacAthur's HQ for the photos of Batavia , that planes from the 3PRS flew
those missions.. not part of thier normal assigned missons.

When you posted the photos, it really got my attention, and I had to find
out why they were well outside the normal stalking grounds.
