Default ELT mounting; NTSB

The NTSB is concerned about ELT mountings. This came out of the
Ted Stevens crash.

I'd have thought the ELT would have a integral antenna with some
kind of switching scheme, but I guess not.

Some do with the integral antenna disabled until after the ELT is
removed from the mount. One thing the NTSB might be thinking of is
older ELTs that have had thier mounts degraded over time. I have seen
some held in with ty wraps or velcro. Really that is a maintenance
issue but that's not consolation when the ELT comes adrift in a crash.
