Default increase range of vhf hand held radio?

Got a older radio shack hand held radio with the air band. I can receive
signals but it there any type of externa antenna I can attach to increase
the range?

A "Discone" omni antenna will work quite will. I believe Radio Shack still
sells them, but I can't give you a part number offhand.
