Default Thunderbirds doco - pixellated bits

Watching a Discovery channel documentary abut US aerobatic team The
Thunderbirds I was interested to see that the pilots' pre-take off hand
gestures were pixellated out. I thought these were either salutes, or
'thumbs up', or 'after you' signs. What about them could have got them
pixellated - unless they were rude? Any ideas.
