Default Blanik L13AC AD requiring Eddy Current and Hardness Testing

The Finger Lakes Soaring Club of Dansville, NY owns a Blanik L13AC. It is our main two place glider for teaching students.

The AD 2016-11-10, published on 6/3/2016, pertaining to Blanik L13AC Gliders refers to LET Mandatory Bulletin L13/085a. That bulletin requires eddy current testing and hardness testing on the far aft bulkhead. So far I have not been able to find any testing company interested in doing this testing.

Does any one in this group have any ideas about who does this type of testing?

Any help would be appreciated.

Finding a facility closer than Ottawa ( 300km approx) is going
to be difficult. But you might contact the Canadian Warplane heritage group in Hamilton; they must have equipment and skills.

What's that, a 3 hour drive?

Both hardness and Eddy current testers should be avaliable at the closest foundry or steel plant.
Weld shops can have Eddy Current testers, but most likely not hardness testers.

Found a company, nearby in Buffalo, NY, willing to do the testing. In the process of getting a quote. Will report back on outcome.

We found a testing company in Buffalo, NY willing to work with us on the required testing. They have both eddy current and hardness testers. Presently getting quotes for the testing and travel time. Will report back on outcome. Our A&P/IA wants to be present for the testing if he is to sign off that the testing was done.

If anyone is in the area, it might be a good place to grab business cards and network to find who is doing the type of testing being discussed here.

Cheers!

We are presently trying to find NDT testing companies to do the tests and/or trying to rent the equipment to do the testing.

Buying the test equipment would cost about $6,000.
