Default Flight Control Setup

New to this [or any] newsgroup. Have read all messages posted in search of
an answer to my quandry and found such a basic subject is not currently
covered.

I have been unable to get the Game Controller to recognize the brake pedals.
Rudder action is o.k. but neither left nor right brake responds to pedal
input.

Differential power [on twins] and rudder is no way to taxi!

Step by step flight control input procedure to resolve this impasse would be
appreciated.

Never had this problem with real world aircraft. If the brakes didn't work
maintenance corrected the problem.

What sim are you using? What joystick? How did you try to set them up?
In FS2004 you go
to options-controls-assignments, select the joystick page, pick the
brake and tell it to redefine it.

Thanks for the response Bret.

There are two sims: MS 2004 and Elite PCATD 8.0.

The joystick available is a CH 568 CombatStick (USB) but I have not put it
to work. The flight controls in use are an Elite ProPanel (yoke) and Flight
Link Hydraulic Rudder Pedals.

The flight controls were setup using the Microsoft Game Controller. This
worked for pitch, roll and yaw but not for braking action.

Have installed but not used or setup FS 2004 . Will follow your suggestion
and use this program to try and activate the brakes.

My previous attempts to bring the brakes on line used, I thought, every
possible combination the Game Controller offered. I cannot count the number
of tries attempted and neither Flight Link nor Elite have come to my rescue.
My deduction has been that the pedal unit is faulty. Before I make any
claim I will continue to explore the possibilities.

You're welcome. I'm not familiar with the MS game controller but try
bypassing it.

I had a similar problem with the Flight Link helicopter collective's
twist throttle control. The solution was to fiddle with that axis's
Sensitivity in FS2004. It took me a long time to figure that out but now
it works great.... So just in case you haven't, check your Sensitivity
for that axis.

Dave Blevins

P.S. all that said, I was able to calibrate the throttle axis I
mentioned in Win XP's Game Controllers applet. If you can't even get
that far, then indeed I would say there's a more fundamental problem.

Thanks Dave:

Now I have some options and will follow up on them.

This newsgroup approach is great. Talking to real people and getting
sensible answers is refreshing.
