Default 396 and routing....

I'd like to start better using my 396 and am looking for suggestions.

I'm using the internet to keep the database up to date. I'd like to load
STAR's, routes, etc. using a pc program. Is there a program for doing this?
I have the auto option with the Mapsource program - is that what I'm
supposed to use to manage aviation routes?

Can I use AOPA's flight planner directly and download?

I realize it's a very useful tool but I'm not using it to it's potential and
appreciate your comments!

I have a 296, which is exactly the same engine and navigator as the 396.
I had a 295 before that. So far as I know, what you want to do is not
possible because the thousand of Jeppesen waypoints are embedded in
machine, unlike user waypoints which can be created either in the
machine or in Mapsource (or some such similar program).

I am not saying it cannot be done; but if it can I haven't seen anyone
come up with the method.
