AOPA's RTFP
I have a problem with this application providing me a flight route with
winds. I can click on the weather tab and get all the weather products, but when I plan a flight I get no wind conditions. Any one else have this problem? AOPA said to be sure that under Edit - Pilot that I have my DUATS provider user name and password loaded. I do. And, it still does not work. Any users that this function works. If I use Cirrus or the Duats.com page, every thing works fine. -- Regards, Ross C-172F 180 hp KSWI |

Any users that this function works. Ross, I am an experienced user of Jeppesen's FlightStar IFR, the big brother, if you will, to AOPA's Realtime Flight Planner. I have encountered this frustrating problem many times over the last few years in Flightstar IFR and in all cases, this problem was due to the unavailability of the winds aloft forecast in the weather data sent down by the DUATs service to which I connected (CSC or DTC). In other words, it was a problem with DUATs and not the flight planner software. To see if this is your case, first validate that the winds aloft data was sent down to your session of RTFP. In the weather tab, do you see the "Winds Aloft" heading on the right side of the window, about half way down? I am assuming that this feature of FlightStar IFR is the same as RTFP. If so, click this header. Typically the winds aloft text data should then appear in the main weather window. In your case, I suspect that you will not see this data. If you don't, try switching DUATs service providers in the RTFP to your account on the other DUATS provider (assuming you have an account with the other DUATs provider), then download the weather data again. If your flight is within the normal winds aloft forecast period offered by DUATs, you should see the wind effect on your flight. -- Peter |

AOPA's RTFP
Use GoldenEagle. It's free and the wind data works much better.

See my previous reply. I have had problems with it also. I have not
uninstalled and reinstalled it yet like I did with RTFP. One application at a time. Like I said, there were other issues with GE and even Jepp was stumped. Ross John Doe wrote: Use GoldenEagle. Then right click and select properties. In the dialog box near the bottom, you'll see the winds are blank. Just simply enter the winds and then your navlog will show the wind corrections. Chris |

Chris I figured that also, but AOPA tech support says that it should work and it is not. Trouble is the tech support is not 24/7. So they ask a question and I supply an answer. This goes on each evening. I can get the weather off the weather tab but the flight planner does not pick it up. I am still working with AOPA. -- Regards, Ross C-172F 180 hp KSWI |
