Daley to Privatize Chicago's Midway Airport?
"Montblack" wrote in message ... ("WRE" wrote) Oh did I mention my thoughts on what Daley plans to do with Meigs Field? That will be a casino some day. Controlled access from the city (there's only one road in) and boats from all over Lake Michigan will be able to pull up and gamble. You heard it here first! Actually, we heard it about 5 minutes after Daley bulldozed those big X's into the runway. Montblack Actually it was heard a long time before that. When he first started talking about closing Meigs it became known he would eventually put in a gambling boat. He will probably kick the boat owners out of Burnham Harbor to bring in the gambling boat. After all they are a security risk. They can cruise up the Chicago Sewer errrrrr I mean River right into down town and set off a bomb and they can carry a lot more than a 172. |

Daley to Privatize Chicago's Midway Airport?
Jim Burns wrote: Hey, what ever happened to the plan to build one at Peotone? It's been ages since I heard that mentioned. Jim Don't you guys use Google ?? Finally, some private sector "free enterprise" entrepenuers: "The Illinois Department of Transportation's plans for an airport near Peotone might be in limbo, but that isn't stopping a south suburban businessman from trying to build an airport of his own on the same property. James Bult wants to open Bult Field, a one-mile airstrip capable of accommodating corporate jets amid the farms in eastern Will County. Bult Field would not be unlike the dozens of other private airports scattered around the Chicago area - except it would be in the footprint of IDOT's south suburban airport. The development is piquing the curiosity of neighbors, who cannot understand why Bult would sink millions of dollars into land that will be plowed under if IDOT ever builds its airport. "It is bizarre," said Barbara Gaffney, who lives nearby in unincorporated Monee. A hearing Tuesday for the Bult Field proposal was postponed by the Will County Planning and Zoning Commission until April 4. Brian Radner, a planner with the county's Land Use Department, said the matter likely will be postponed for a couple of months to determine if Bult violated building codes by starting work on the runway before the project was approved. Last week, construction equipment and piles of fresh dirt surrounded the path of a new landing strip parallel to Offner Road, between Kedzie and Western avenues. "We want to make sure everything is in compliance," Radner said. Bult hung up on a phone call seeking comment. He did not respond to messages left at his home and business. In an application filed with the county, however, Bult seeks to substantially upgrade the old Sanger Airport, a general aviation airport that opened in the 1950s. The dilapidated hangars of the old airport would be replaced with new buildings and an office. The old runway would be rebuilt, almost doubling in size to 5,000 feet, with a concrete surface 7 inches thick. Bult's application with the county states he wants a runway suitable for handling his new Cessna jet, due to arrive in 2008. Because Bult Field would continue the operations of an existing airport, it does not require additional approval from IDOT's division of aeronautics or the Federal Aviation Administration. Matt Vanover, an IDOT spokesman, said there is nothing that can be done to stop the project, despite its location in an area targeted by the state for a commercial airport with one runway and a six-gate terminal. The FAA has yet to approve IDOT's airport. "We have had a number of discussions with Mr. Bult. He is well aware that we are building an airport," Vanover said. "It is his property. It is his to do what he wants with it." Vanover said Bult Field eventually "could be incorporated" into a larger airport. He declined to elaborate. Vanover also said the state might consider buying the property from Bult." Big Ups to Mr Bult....JG |

Daley to Privatize Chicago's Midway Airport?
Dave Stadt wrote: "jsmith" wrote in message ... And just where in Chicago would this new airport be built? Dave, you need to read the newspapers! The proposed location is down by Peotone VOR, about 30-40 miles south of Chicago. It would be run by Chicago. That's why the proposal was dropped 3-4 years ago. The local communities weren't going to allow Chicago control over their land. There would be plenty of graft and corruption to go around, so a deal could yet be crafted. Yes I read newspapers and get information from numerous other news sources as well. Daley would have absolutely no control over the proposed third airport in Peotone. Peotone is not Chicago. That is why he is dead set against it or any other options that do not involve ORD such as expanding Gary or Rockford. The paperboy in Stadtville, Alabama must be a few weeks behind. "Gary/Chicago International Airport From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Runway layout at GYYThe Gary/Chicago International Airport (GYY) located in Gary, Indiana is operated by the Gary Chicago Airport Authority, the basis for which was formed by the Chicago Gary Airport Compact signed in 1995. Rieth-Riley was the lowest of five bidders, according to aviation consultant Ken Ross, and was about $60,000 under the engineer's estimate. All but $7,445 worth of work is being funded with city of Chicago passenger facility charge funds, as part of a pact the airport authority struck years ago with the city of Chicago to work together on airport development in the Chicagoland region. Approval of the contract by members of the Gary/Chicago Airport Authority means work can get started immediately." |

Now that will cause Daley and ORD to shake in their boots. AFAIK most, if not all commuters and airlines, that went into GYY have bailed so the 152s and Boeing will have fun with the 9,000 feet of runway. Those airlines that did go into GYY had no interest in going into ORD or MDW. Sounds like the Feds are a day late with their upgrade funding. GYY will never take meaningful capacity away from MDW or ORD. Daley sees GYY as nothing more than a pimple on an elephants butt. He will throw them a bone every once in a while to keep the noise level down just like he has done with communities surrounding ORD that are willing to work with him on the MULTI BILLION (BILLION not hundreds of thousands) dollar ORD expansion. If Gary acts up he will just go in and bulldoze it. Can't say that I've been in AL for a decade or so. Did find Huntsville to be very high tech and very up to date when it came to news timeliness when I used to spent time there. |
