Windows XP & soaring
Does anybody with Windows XP have difficulty running any soaring software?
Does any software not run on XP? Specifically: Does WinPilot work on XP? I'm going to upgrade my OS soon, and I don't want to get stuck with one incompatible with future software purchases! Chris |

Does any software not run on XP? Specifically: Does WinPilot work on XP? Winpilot does not run on PCs, it is for the handheld pocket PCs. Since when is Windblows an upgrade? :-p Try using a Linux GUI/Desktop for a while, Windows ain't so bad after all. Guy Byars |

Guy Byars Try doing a 500 frame POV-Ray animation in windoze, you'll soon find out that there's a very good reason Linux exists. No version of windoze has been able to complete it, but Linux walks through it nicely. windoze is sooooo incapable. (And the 3d model is a grob of some sort, with german markings, coming into a german field, through the hangar and into the cliff. I love it.) |

There is a version of WinPilot available on their site as well as from
Craggy Aero in both a free and paid version that runs on my Win XP-Pro system. Neat for learning to use the PDA version in a relaxed setting. Ray Warshaw "Guy Byars" wrote in message ... Winpilot Lite (PC version of Winpilot) needs XP, as does their thermal finder software. The only one I use, SeeYou, runs very well on XP. -- ----- change "netto" to "net" to email me directly Eric Greenwell Washington State USA |

Chris Go with win2000, XP is a collection of instability, going in different directions, and not getting anywhere. No BSD, Just: This program has enountered a problem and has to close. XP will also not allow it self to be removed, or the hard disk formatted, you're stuck with that piece of **** once you put it in until you do a low level format. |

I agree completely, I have been running 2k for 2 1/2 years with only two
crashes, and both of them were virus related. "Lennie the Lurker" wrote in message om... "C.Fleming" wrote in message ... Does anybody with Windows XP have difficulty running any soaring software? XP Pro works fine, no problems at all running SeeYou, uploading and
downloading waypoints and routes to/from a Garmin GPS 3 Pilot via G7toWin, uploading and downloading operating system, waypoints, and ..igc files to/from an SN-10, using Airspace to make airspace files for SN-10 .ndb files, playing with SFS 4.14, watching UKsmokin, yabbering on RAS, etc. The only problem I have is trying to use a DOS program to download from my GR-1000 logger; for that I have to use a DOS window in Win98, on my backup "glider notebook". No lockups, although there used to be a problem with IE - fixed by an automatic update from MS. Isn't it fun being having to be a computer geek to fly gliders nowadays? (Actually, I kinda enjoy playing with all the toys...) Kirk |
