It's my Father in Law's 80th birthday, and we are wanting to treat
him to an aviation themed culinary experience. Our choices in Atlanta
are Downwind at PDK or Flight Deck at Charlie Brown. We want to eat and
watch planes with 3 great grandkids...any input on either of these?

This is the same old fart that paid for our B-17 ride last year, as
hosted by Jay at www.alexisparkinn. (thanksJ)

Anyone in the McCollum area need your aircraft washed? G

Even a tour of the ramp would be a thrill for him.

Thanks,

~Dave

If you don't mind driving a ways, there is always the cafe at Rome. I think
you have to walk across the ramp to get there. Also, the Civil Air Patrol
flies gliders there fairly often and there is a skydiving operation there
too...

If you're limited to PDK or Fulton County, I'd go to PDK. Lots more traffic,
but it'll take an act of congress to get out on the ramp. Can't speak to
the ramp access issue at Fulton County.

I don't think you'd have any problem just walking through the Northside FBO
and walking the ramp at McCollum. I *know* it wouldn't be a problem at
Cartersville or Calhoun, which are two pretty neat fields (though without
on-airport food).

It's on the south side, and traffic can be a little slow, and the runway's a little rough,
but the Barnstormer's Grill at Peach State (GA2) is very nice. We've flown over there
several times for breakfast (mmm... steak and eggs), and on the weekend there's often a
gaggle of old biplanes on the ramp. And the restaurant sits right next to the runway, so
if anyone comes in or leaves... you feel it.
