New to America
Hi!
I would very much like to import a Slingsby Capstan over here but would very much appreciate hearing from others who have imported gliders to the USA. Is it difficult to get an elderly British glider onto the American experimental register? Lastly, does anyone know of a manufacturer of glider trailers in or near to Pennsylvania? Steve |

Steve Are you naturalized? Normally, a foreign national cannot register an aircraft in the US except through a partnership, corporation, or third-party. There's a Capstan for sale on wingsandwheels.com, though the trailer is as much as the glider. It carries a standard airworthiness certificate. That means an import must have complete logbooks to achieve this. Otherwise, it would of necessity be experimental. Having flown the Capstan, it's surprising performance appears to be from the 'lifting body' effect. The cockpit's a bit drafty for wave flying. Fun glider though. For a standard airworthy. You need to clear the CAA registry. You need an export C of A. You need to be able to N-register the aircraft. For experimental, the export C of A need not apply. Export C of A is from the country of manufacture, not necessarily from the country where the aircraft was registered and operated. In your case, the same I gather. Frank Whiteley Frank Whiteley |
