Default Just soloed on my 14th b-day!

I just soloed a Schweizer 2-33 on my 14th birthday! It was the very last day of
operations for the Windy City Soaring Association (11/28/04) and I was the last
flight of the season. I was amazed how much nicer the 2-33 seemed to fly solo
(or maybe it was just me).

A special thank you goes out to all who have purchased my contest photos at
races around the U.S. and also to those who have purchased items from my “I
Want to FLY!” store (www.cafepress.com/iwanttofly). You have helped fund my
lessons and made this whole aviation thing possible for me. I can’t wait for
next season!

Thanks!

Trace Lewis

Good for you "kid" !!!! You must be really happy right now. Keep at
it and maybe you'll have your license by the end of next season!

Good Luck.

Well, I'm impressed, and I'm twice your age. I've got an instrument rating
but I've never landed without an engine. Now get that darn written test out
of the way so you can finish up fast when Spring arrives!

Real men don't need no steenkin' engine

Not likely. You can solo a glider at 14, but you can't get the private
until you turn 16.

Trace:

Congratulations, kid. Start lookig around for something you can fly XC
in. Your finances likely won't stretch to glass, but someone may have
a Ka-6 or Ka-8 sitting around that he might let you fly. And in a
pinch, even a 1-26 will do. The written can wait - get yourself a copy
of Reichmann and start reading.

Actually, my dad is keeping his Blanik L-33 solo for me to fly next year, he
just bought a Genesis and says I might get to fly that too!

Thanks for the support!

Hey Trace,

Congratulations! Everyone who solos deserves congratulations, but
I think it's particularly special when the really young guys and
the really old guys hit that milestone.

Here's to the first of many!

Trace:

Congrats from one of the really old guys.I soloed
3 days before my 72nd birthday.
I sure wish I had not waited so long because if I had soloed at 14 like
you,I would have been enjoying flying
for the past 63 years.
