Default Another midair!

Lasham, Monday saw another one of our band killed in a midair.
No further details but this is in the public domain having been on several
news channels.

If you come and join me in a thermal I'm likely to p..s off elsewhere.

Ian

The pilot who was killed was Alan Purnell.

See http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=2846856 ,
and http://www.glidingmagazine.com/, then
http://www.glidingmagazine.com/NewsArticle.asp?id=1184 .

I knew him well from 1963 when I started gliding, and for the next 25 years
when I was a regular at Lasham.

He was always one of our icons, this is very hard to understand or accept.

The piece in "glidingmagazine.com" will include more information in due
course.

Alan was flying his new glider, when he advertised his Nimbus 3 he said "95
500+ km flights, 8 700+ km flights".

There is now a formal announcement on the Lasham web site.

http://www.lasham.org.uk/news/news.html

The investigation is on going. More information will no doubt follow in due
course.

Our thoughts are with his family and close friends at this time.
