Default Hard Water Deposits

The only negative thing I can think about when flying from Moriarty,
NM is that unless you want to spend big bucks on distilled water, you
have to use the local stuff which leaves hard water deposits on the
glider.
Does anyone have any good solutions, (yes, pun intended) for this
problem?

Someone once mentioned that dish spot stuff can help with hard-water spotting.
"Jet-dry" I think it is.

I've used it when I would hand-wash my car when I was a kid. Seemed to help
with reducing spotting. But our water was not as hard back east.

Fabric softener (for doing laundry) works great. Just put 1-2 cap-
fulls in the wing tanks and fill as normal with water ballast

I've got the same problem and have also considered what the deposits
are doing to the water meter. Maybe there could be a water filter
added to the supply side of the meter. Other than the meter I'll bet
the fabric softener would do the trick for the glider and the valves
etc. I used to use that in my swamp cooler and it worked great for
that too.

When there was still water at Estrella it was very salty. The
solution there was to fill a tranfer tank, add a cup of white vinegar,
and then transfer to the glider. The salts settle in the bottom of
the transfer tank and have to be cleaned out later.

Other pilots wipe down the glider as soon as they land and that seems
to help.

Adding a pint of glycerine/soap solution each side also
produces amazing results ;-)

Thanks Steve and Dave,

How to I get the fabric softener goo into the LS8 through the dump
openings that also serve to fill the wings? Well, I got the entire
winter here in Chicago to figure it out...

I fly Schempp-Hirth Hardware so it is easy to just pour the fabric
softener into the wing tanks. If that option is not available to you,
why not just pour the fabric softener straight from the bottle into
your garden hose? Then simply connect the hose to the supply and
start fillling. Repeat for wing two.
