Default Colibri Black Box info?

Does anyone have any info or experience with the Colibri "Black Box"
(Colibri without display or buttons)?

Cost?

USB connector, like newest Colibri?

Does it really exist?

Hi Kirk,

That is an interesting question. I had been told many times by someone that
the BB version did not exist. But upon asking the factory they said yes, it
does exist and it is available. I don't think they have sold very many of
them though. I think the issue is that the cost is very little less than
the standard Colibri (with LCD and keypad) so they don't market it. I would
agree that it would seem silly to save $50 to get a unit that would be more
difficult to sell in the future.

I will ask again for the price.

I don't know if the USB version is available. I'll ask.

Paul,

Thanks, I'd be interested in the status of the Black Box.

For me (at least) it makes more sense to have a no-frills device: fewer
things to go wrong, etc. As a lot of loggers are now installed as
"blind" devices and operated via PDA interfaces, I don't really see
resale as a future problem.

Maybe LX has a few gathering dust on the shelf they want to get rid of!

The BB exists. I have one in front of me.

Just a black box, same price as the ordinary Colibri, no USB
port. You enter all settings via either LXe or your PDA.

Works just like an ordinary Colibri. Excellent as a back up
logger.

Robert,

Thankyou for the info - that is exactly why I'm interested in the BB.

Hi Kirk,

I'd be glad to order one for you. Please contact me if you are OK with the
price being the same as the standard Colibri and the lack of a USB port.
I'm not sure about the USB port item or the price yet.

However, I must mention that any Colibri can be used as a BB. You don't
need to use the keypad or LCD display. It starts logging when you start
flying just like any BB. I wouldn't want to pay the same price for less
features, but I guess it makes sense if you want it to be very simple.

Good Soaring,
