copy lic. ok?

well, the numbers are starting to rub off my pretty new airplane
drivers license. anyone know if it's ok if i just make a nice copy and
carry that or do i have to have the original card in my possession on a
ramp check.

I see some of mine are getting rubbed off too...guess my wallet's gonna get
thicker... photocopy the plastic ones, laminate both the plastic and the
photo copies.

FAR 61.3a1 requires you to have the certificate itself in your physical
possession.

The print began rubbing off mine, too, after just a few months (whereas my
driver's license is still perfectly legible after five years). The name and
number on mine are still intact, though.

You can request a replacement certificate online at
http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certific...e_replacement/.
They charge $2, but I would refuse to pay the fee if the original license is
defective.

The hell you say. Spend the $3, get a fresh copy, and have it laminated at
an insty-print store.

I think they need to redo the colors. Black lettering on a blue/green
background is difficult to read even when new.

gary...thanks for the useful info. i'm in the fed site so i'll get
registered, get the new card, copy it, have it laminated, hide the old
one just in case since they say they will not issue more than one
replacment. i guess if your wallet gets stolen twice you're not a pilot
anymore?

as to standing on the principle and protesting the 2$ by standing
outside crawford...no, holdit...that's another protest...i think i'll
pass. the federal government is pretty immune to protests on principle.
