In the new EAA magazine this month, they've published a survey of
their pilot-members.

Most of it is silly/fun stuff, but one statistic really caught my eye.
Fully 32% of respondents admit to having being told to "Call the
tower" after landing!

One third of all EAA members have been told to "call the tower"? Is
that possible?

Have you been asked to "Call the tower"?

Yes. On take-off from runway 29 my engine was running rough.
I asked for and received clearance for immediate on 5.
(winds were light)

I explained what happened and that was that.

My buddy flew us into Kalispell City Airport (S27) without calling the
tower. *His excuse was, he'd been flying there his entire life and
there had never been a tower there before.

According to the A/FD there isn't one there now.

See what I mean?

Towers pop up all over MT, then they're g o n e.

Turns out it was Glacier Int'l, FCA, 5/25/2002.
