Default Cessna 150/150 Tow hook

Is there an STC for installing a Schweizer hook on a 150/150? I could just
follow 43.13-2B Chap.8 and get a field approval but I'm trying to minimize
the Fed involvement. Ideas?
Thanks,
Ed Byars

Check with Burt Compton.

I think he's flown several 150/150s as tow planes.

Burt has a Cessna 150 with 180HP. I'm pretty sure that a towhook was a
factory option from Cessna, but I can't remember or find any
documentation that supports that in a quick google search. I'm sure Burt
would be able to help you out.

www.flygliders.com will get you started to contact him if he doesnt check
in here.

Look in the IPC (Illustrated Parts Catalog). I believe it is shown there
(I know it is on the 172 and 182). If it is shown there, there is no need
for any FAA involvement, as it is approved by Cessna. I know the 150 is
approved for towing (have seen the structural substantiation report).

And with it in the IPC, it needs, at the very most, an airframe mechanic
signature for the installation. It might even be an owner/operator
installable part, as it is less complicated than changing oil or a tire.

Also, you might check with Jeff Campbell at a soaring operation in
Telluride, CO. He had a Cessna 150/180 at Parowan in 2005 and towed for
the contest there. Sorry I don't have an email address for Jeff or the
name of the soaring operation.
