storage boxes on outside of Cobra trailer
Has anyone mounted storage boxes on the outside of a Cobra trailer? The thought is to mount boxes in front of the fenders with fasteners through the sides and possibly a support underneath.

There's a Cobra trailer at Moriarty which has had the fenders replaced
with fender-shaped boxes. Not very pretty, but probably functional. On 9/13/2016 9:36 AM, dreagan wrote: Has anyone mounted storage boxes on the outside of a Cobra trailer? The under-trailer box is a little less aesthetically challenged. It's available as an add-on; see the Spindelberger website.
FWIW, I ended up mounting my spare under the trailer (2013 model year) when I added the 15M extensions to my ASG-29. While the floor and wall material is pretty solid, it's not immune from compression damage. I ended up building a large steel doubler on the inside to spread the load of the 5 lug nuts from the spare. Even with large fender washers (before the doubler) I could see that the load from the spare would eventually cause failure in the skin. Point being, home-grown mounts for storage boxes would need to account for this and might be a bit more work than anticipated. P3 |

Not exactly what you are asking; I made "receiver style" mounts for bicycle racks, Two receiver tubes each side of the trailer ahead of the axle to accept tubes that support bike racks that were originally intended for roof rack mounting.
The receivers are square steel tube, about 1/8" wall and are bolted through the trailer floor with large washers inside. Trailer sides not used for support at all. The floor mount is solid, secure, and easily supports the bicycle with rider sitting on it (only tested while stationary . |
