I believe that was emergency ditching gear, rather than landing gear.

Strange to see it deployed, all the same.

What is the little airfoil just beneath
the main rotor?

As for the airfoil, it does not appear in other HO3S photos.
Maybe this is the specially-modified HO3S-3 ?
