Speaker discusses LC-130 polar operations
The mission commander during the South Pole rescue of Dr. Jerri Neilsen
is scheduled to speak at the National Museum of the United States Air
Force.
Col. (Ret.) Graham Pritchard presents ³History of the LC-130 in Polar
Operations² at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 in Carney Auditorium.
During his lecture, he will discuss the need to develop a ski-equipped
C-130 to build the Greenland Ice Cap DEW line stations and the evolution
of the aircraft to its current fleet and missions now flown by the 109th
Airlift Wing. In addition, he will talk about the Wingıs challenging and
successful recovery of Dr. Neilsen from the South Pole due to her
illness..

Parasite aircraft topic of January VIP lecture
Museum historian Jeff Duford presents ³Parasite Aircraft: Extending
Range without Aerial Tanking² at 7 p.m. on Jan. 30 in Carney Auditorium.
Dufordıs lecture focuses on the Republic RF-84K Thunderflash, but it
also will cover earlier parasite aircraft, such as the Sperry Messenger.
The museum recently placed an RF-84K on display in its Cold War Gallery.
Duford received his masterıs degree in history from Eastern Michigan
University in 1997. During his more than eight years on the museum
staff, his work has included curating exhibits, giving lectures and
providing research support for restoration projects.
This presentation is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30
