Default Lock-On: Modern Air Combat -how serious/casual?

I've been out of the simming scene for a long time, but if there's
something I remember well it's that rarely do sim players agree with
simulation reviews. I want to get back into it with a modern combat
sim, LOMAC in particular. Is there anything quite ridiculous about
LOMAC as a survey/study (if you will) simulation? I'm looking for
something that's not like Jane's USAF or JetFighter 4 (barf), but less
detailed than Falcon 4.0. Is LOMAC what I'm looking for?
