They seem to be releasing new firmware for it every couple of weeks. My
brother purchased one a couple of weeks ago and speaks very highly of
it, telling me to replace my 500 with the 600c. He had some initial lock
ups but the newer firmware seems to have corrected that.

I think his only issue was battery life but knowing him, that is
probably self induced.

Dan,

great unit, unbeatable price. Battery life is 7 hours or more at full
background light.

Pa28-181,

shaking my head

There's been ONE firmware update.

probably self induced.

Battery life is 7 hours or more at full background light. On TWO AAs! More
than 12 with more judicious use of background light.

More fact, less hyperbole. Try it. You might like it.

Chris,

he 600c is VERY similar,
according to the latest Aviation Consumer review of the 600c (this
month's edition).

Two major differences:

1. Background lighting
The 600c (and the very latest models of the 2000c, it seems) have
cold-cathode lighting, which means the battery lifetime is more than
decent. The old 2000c was weak on that.

2. Processor power
The 600c seems to have a more powerful processor than older 2000c's.
Surprise...

I have an Airmap 2000c and I love it. The 600c is VERY similar,
according to the latest Aviation Consumer review of the 600c (this
month's edition). They had very favorable reviews, though they do leave
out one important detail--it takes 20+ mins on hold to actually reach a
support rep.

Fortunately, after using my 2000c for a year, I have never had to call a support rep. I imagine that 600c will be a very
nice unit...

I've actually had more problems with my RAM mount than I have the GPS
itself. I'm also speaking if you have ANY questions or want to talk to
ANY person, it takes nearly 20 minutes on hold. I called them on
Friday, before going to AWO for the NW EAA Fly-In to see if their GPS
recorded the altitude in the "My Trails" data (it doesn't).
