Spent a couple of years during WW2 in an outfit with 6 R4D's and 3 R5O's.
Two of the R4D's were R4D-1,s and carried 4 letter Buno's. . To prime the
engines in the R4D-1 you climbed up on the main mount into the wheel well
and did it by hand with a plunger. I was the an AMM1/c and Plane Captain,
Crew Chief Etc. of an early R4D-6 - BuNo 17251. The pilot I normally flew
with was a recalled retired NAP that graduated Flight School in 1925. He
closley resembled "Grandpa Pettybone", was a great pilot!!

Before that I was an ASR Crewman in a J2F-2 - Lots of memories.

All the carriers that I served on are now Toyotas or razor blades. O'Well

A Merry Christmas!!
