Default Whither The T-2?

Curiosity question:

What is happening to all the T-2s phased out of service?

Davis- Monthan? (Somehow "War Reserve" just doesn't sound right for the
Mississippi MiG.)
Foreign sales?
Civilian sales?
Smelter?
Artificial reef?

I assume several have / will become gate guards.

Pensacola is getting some of them to continue NFO training, but I think the
plan is to shut that down pretty quickly and move the work the Meridian or
Kingsville in the T-45.

Most are going to the boneyard.

JXC- Most are going to the boneyard. BRBR

I still think, with lots of $, clipped wings, better electrics, new engines,
single seat cockpit, it would be a great unlimited air racer.

Great little jet. In VF-126, when used for OOC/Stall training for Turkey crews,
it took a beating and kept on ticking.

We still have a few here at Pax River for the Test Pilot School boys to beat
up!

Gerry "Spinmeister" Gallagher still spends more time in OCF than the rest of
the kids have in their logbooks!

to an 80 to 100 degree positive pitch.....back to idle passing
45.........down to 200.......relax the pull......full right
aileron.......at 180 roll.....full right rudder.......at 360 roll at
130kts, full forward right stick and full left rudder!!!!......Yup!!!!

Hey Tom, LTNS

My understanding is they are going to keep a couple of T2s at PAX for
undetermined time as we really don't have a platform that can take it's
place for OFC.

VT 86 in Pensacola is going to take delivery of a handful of T2's to augment
their stable of Buckeys for NFO training.

Next time I am in your neighborhood, I'll stop by.

Jake

I'd like to get one of the cockpit procedure trainers that they'll be
getting rid of, and put it in the TV room. With a bigger garage, maybe
the full motion sim.

Actually, the A-4 sim wasn't that big. That'd fit in the garage.

nimbill- I was once many years ago in VFP-63 and we shared a hangar with
VF-126 at NAS
Miramar. BRBR

My first experience(not counting being a dumass middie) was TA-4 CQ, in
Miramar, abourd the Big E.

Went down to the hanger for the brief, two VFP-63-F-8s were a leavin. These
jets goin' into AB is not something you forget.

Well, they'll be moving them out of the building shortly. For a full motion
setup, you'll need roughly 30x40 footprint with 20 foot ceilings. OBTW, the
computers are early 70's DEC technology. While the console operation is
straightforward, working with the hardware requires some knowledge of octal
IIRC.

You're right, the A-4 final update (stand-alone vice 4 to a deck) would fit
in a garage. A much more user friendly system as well, both for the techies
and the operator.
