Is there a way to search the archives for a particular
poster across the last seven years besides going individually
through the mixed-up monthly/yearly listings in the
archives?

Nyal, if you use google groups you can click on "view profile" next to
the posters name and it will show you the post history of that user.
I can see your posts back to 2002.
