Default Soaring near Lake Taupo NZ?

Going to NZ for a trip tomorrow, will be based out of Lake Taupo.

Are there any gliding clubs/operators in the mid north island area?

Will try to get down to Omarama whilst I am out there also.

Cheers

Al

Hi Al
Maybe too late - but here goes.

Taupo is pretty scenic - Taranaki, Tongariro, Ruapehu and a couple of
other volcanoes etc.

The Wellington GLiding Club at Paraparaumu is easily driveable from
Taupo - nice ridge - DG1000. Kapiti coast is spectacular. Bruce (.)
Hoult at gmail - is the man to talk to...

Omarama is over 4 hours by car from what remains of Christchurch - so it
is a fly and drive a LOT option.

My record is 2x Omarama (one week of mountain course, one day in wave a
year or so later). Once to Paraparaumu(no-one flying in the rain but the
car museum was worth the visit). If you have the time - go to Omarama.
If not - lots of great places on north island.

Cheers
Bruce

Hi Al,
There is a very active club just on North East side of Taupo - 10 min
drive. Excellent people.

Happy travelling, Mark

Coastal flights have been done from both Auckland Gliding Club and Aviation Sports Club.
