Putting this thing together was an awful lot of work, but it all came
together rather well, thanks to PERFECT weather, cool toys, and cheap,
good food!

There's a neat video of my daughter Becca and me riding in a 1929
Travel Air biplane (it's on Sunday's page), as well as a short video of
my son Joe's departure for an aerobatic ride in the Yellow Book Pitts
Special. Both kids are STILL talking about those rides, a week later.
(This from kids who are entirely jaded about flying, mind you...)

Let me tell you: Now that I've seen and done this sort of thing "from
the inside", I have a whole new appreciation for Oshkosh, Sun N Fun,
Quad City Airshow (next weekend, BTW!), and all those wonderful fly-in
breakfasts that are held across this great land of ours. Next time you
attend one of these volunteer-run events, find a harried-looking worker
and shake his hand. Pat him on the back, kiss him if you must -- but
let him know that you appreciate what he/she has done -- cuz it's a JOB
to put one of these things together.

Crazy thing is, after seeing all those kids having fun at our airport
-- something we never, EVER see anymore -- I'd do it all again. I
wish we had something like this at our airport every other weekend --
it would sure shut down the "anti-airport" crowd...

Thanks for the pics and the write up Jay. Whose yellow Chevy is that
with the black vinyl top? A Chevelle? Cool car...

Beats me, man. We only spoke to a couple of owners -- and were surprised
when dozens followed.

Custom car owners are like pilots -- they flock to cheap food and
like-minded souls!
