Default Piper door window STC worth it?

Great Lakes Aero offers plain replacement Piper door windows as well
STCs for their "frameless" vent windows adapted to the door side. The
cost is only a few Aviation Monetary Units more to get the vent, plus
the additional install cost since you need an IA for the STC where you
could just do the straight replacement yourself.

Seems like you get more ventilation by popping the door open an inch or
so than you get from a vent window, but you do need a passenger who is
trained to keep it open until you're about to taxi into position and then
close and latch it properly.

Has anyone out there got a door vent?

Why would you need an IA to sign off the replacement of one type of window
for another under an STC?

Finally... a picture of the dog that bites the pilot's hand if the pilot
tries to touch anything!
