Default 2006 World Class (PW-5) US Nationals at Marfa, Texas

May 30, 2006 Pre-Contest Report:

Pilots John Byrd, Bill Snead and Tom McKnight have already positioned
their PW-5's at Marfa for practice tasks. Crew gals Ann Byrd, Nancy
Snead and Mimi McKnight relax in the shade of my picnic area next to my
big hangar on Marfa Airport. My bermuda grass is green and the flowers
are bloomin'. At our 5,000' msl field elevation, the Marfa Plateau is
not as hot as the rest of west Texas, and the view of the surrounding
mountains is mighty nice.

Our "official" practice days are June 18-19, but you can arrive early,
as the legendary Marfa soaring weather is already crankin'. Go look
at Dr. Jack's Marfa Blipspot!

Charlie Spratt will be here as Contest Director.
Rick Sheppe will be our scorer, and will publish turnpoints soon.
Ann Byrd is arranging our social evenings.
Bill Shurley has opened his convenient airport RV site.

All three runways at MRF are ready and the airport infield grass is
mowed.

Marfa motel accommodations may be tight this summer, as two major film
productions are in progress. Motels in nearby Fort Davis are
available, at the foothills of the Davis Mountains and only 20 minutes
from Marfa Airport.

If you are planning to fly with us or just visit Marfa, please let us
know in advance, so we can show you a good time!
