Default How get get serial number of GNS-430?

Wanting to put our club's 430s on the upgrade list, I need to get the serial
numbers. Is there a page with this in the unit itself? I looked the other
day, but didn't spot it.

Thanks...

I don't recall seeing a page either. How about looking in your aircraft's
maintenance logs or the club's paper receipts for the unit?

I've not checked myself, but another club member has for one aircraft and
didn't locate this.

The installing shop will have the serial number. I just checked with my installer (G-Force at CAK) and they had already sent in all the names for the units they had installed. Now if/when Garmin says the word.....

Get an allen wrench, unlock it from the tray, yank it out, and take a look
at the tag on the back. You're not going to hurt it.

You've never seen me operate an allen wrench.

Will pulling the unit from the power supply cause it to revert back to its
factory-set defaults?

When my unit was pulled and repaired by Garmin (which reverted all settings
back to their defaults), the avionics shop had to recalibrate my GNS480
with the HSI.

Side question: How does one intentionally reset a garmin 430 to
factory defaults? There must be some "three-fingered-salute" or key
combination at power-on that does this but I can't find it in the
manual. I just got mine a few months ago. When I first got it, it was
in "East is up" mode. Not North. Not track. I figured that one out.
Also, when I go to the "nearest airports" page, it's always empty. Not
a major inconvenience yet, but I'd like the information to be there
should I really need it someday. The nearest NDBs, VOR's, FSS, Center,
etc. lists are all populated, but nearest airport is empty. I'm
thinking somewhere in the setup is a radius setting for nearest
airports that's set way too small, but I'd like to just reset my 430
and start from scratch. Anyone know how?

AFAIK, its not in the user manual. It may be in the installation manual.

Hold the 'clear' button down while powering on the unit. You may have to
keep holding the 'clear' button down until it finishes its self test, but
I don't remember exactly.

If you hold the 'enter' button down while powering it on, you to the
hardware set-up page that allows you to do all sorts of things that Garmin
and your avionics shop would prefer you didn't. I'm thinking you may be
able to get the s/n of the unit though here as well, but I havn't had a
chance to check it myself.

This is probably not a time for fat-fingering the wrong button.
