Default Flight to Cleveland Burke Lakefront

My wife & I will be flying to Burke Lakefront airport this weekend for
a 4 night mini-vacation in the Cleveland/Sandusky area.

Anyone been there recently? Any tips on favorite FBO? restaurant?
activity?

We are planning to visit the R&R Hall of Fame (naturally) and will
probably rent a car to go to the big roller coaster park in Sandusky
(Cedar Point).

Thanks for any suggestions.

I fly out of Burke on occassion... here are some ideas. You'll get good
service, but typical "Class D" fuel pricing from Millionaire. Hornblower's
is a decent restaurant adjascent to the field (walk over after parking the
plane). They feature a varied menu with several sea food entrees. The
downtown area is a short bus or cab ride from the airport, and there are
*many* good restaurants, some with specific fare, such as Greek and
Mediterranean, some offering unusual cuisine, and a couple of 4-star
options. If you get to the West 6th street area, you can just walk around
until you find something to your liking. Ask at the desk for some other
pointers.

We are planning to visit the R&R Hall of Fame (naturally) and will
probably rent a car to go to the big roller coaster park in Sandusky
(Cedar Point).

Plan to spend some time at the R&R Hall of Fame. Even skipping a lot,
you'll spend a half day there. The Science Museum is next door to the R&R
museum, and can be an interesting place if you're so inclined.

I'd probably opt to fly to Sandusky (SKY), which is a short hop along the
shoreline, and take either a cab (or I think there's a shuttle) to Cedar
Point, which is a few miles away.

Enjoy!

Neil

I'd skip Burke and go to Sandusky instead. Nice airport.

I've been traveling to Burke Lakefront monthly for the past 4 months. Both
Million Air and Business Air/Avitat are more than adequate with the slight
edge going to Business Air. With no car rental company on the field I used
Business Air because Enterprise will leave cars on premises with them for
rental. They won't do that with Million Air, apparently they have had
problems with them in the past.

Addtionally, Business Air directed me to park at the door to the FBO and
then later towed my plane into it's parking spot which was very convenient
to the parking lot. The prior month the lineman at Million Air griped that
I couldn't park in front of the door after I taxied from my parking spot to
pick up my sick wife for departure. While he might not have known that I
was only going to be there for 5 minutes he could have asked my intentions
first before saying "You can't park there, it's for jets only". Even if I
am driving a Skyhawk, we're not talking the International Arrivals ramp at
Kennedy Airport here.

It's a minor nit but why I give the overall edge to Business Air.

I haven't really done the attractions but the Hall of Fame is about a
1/2-3/4 mile walk/ride from the airport (Million Air is 1/4 mile closer in
this regard. For good food go to the Warehouse district and not the "Flats".
The Flats tends to be more "touristy" and the Warehouse district more
"trendy". For nightlife either district is good. For nightlife pick up a
free newspaper called the "Scene".

Enjoy
