john smith opined

Please do not use png, I do not have any software on my machine that
will read them. No MicroSoft products installed.

png doesn't have anything to do with M$. png was developed as a patent free
replacement for gif after Honeywell asserted its patent rights over the
compression scheme used by Compuserve in the gif algorithym. But the patent
has run out, so gifs are royalty free now.

For pictures that are human made, like plain text and floor plans, gif or
png is a better format than jpg.

Nice suite Jay! One suggestion: have you ever thought about hiring a
professional photographer to get some tips on how to photograph interiors? I
just don't think a point-and-click flash does the room(s) justice. I'm no
photographer but you may find out that a modest investment in some lighting
and/or different photography techniques may make your hotel look amazing.

Look at some of the hotel chains' websites to see what I mean.

Hope you don't mind the suggestion...

Regards,

Marco

WARNING: Bald-faced self-promotion to follow

With limitless thanks to Mike Cummings (the Reno Air Race coordinator who
gave us all the memorabilia and artwork when we were at the races in
September), and to the many folks here on the aviation newsgroups who have
proven to be invaluable with your suggestions and donations, we have

FINALLY
finished the Reno Air Race Suite.

See it at http://alexisparkinn.com/reno_air_race_suite.htm

See the story of our flight to Reno at
http://alexisparkinn.com/2004_reno_air_races.htm .

It took almost three months, but with 17 years worth of framed Reno

posters
(they commission a new one each year), hard-to-find air race seminar
patches, a 10-foot P-51 Mustang over the bed, and a hot tub in the bedroom
(it's a honeymoon suite, doncha know?) I think it's our coolest one yet!

Jay H, FWIW...

-Place camera on a sturdy tripod so it will stay "registered"
-Frame the entire room as you want it to look.
-Turn off camera flash
-Set f-stop so the veiw out the window(s) is/are properly exposed.
-Take Picutre One
-Set f-stop so the interior of the room is properly exposed
-Take Picture Two
-Cut out properly exposed window portion of picture 1
-Paste it over window in picture 2
-Chances are you will need to do some minor color correction because the
world outside the windows will probably look a little blue as sunlight is
much bluer in color temp than indoor lighting.

Just my $0.02 worth...

Okay, Jay, here's the deal.

You come and photograph all of our suites (in the manner you described), and
you stay free in your suite(s) of choice!

Of course, the temperature is getting down to +6 degrees tonight, so you
might want to wear a light jacket when you get here...

;-)

I'm sure you could find a "starving" commercial photographer in your area
who would work for what you're offering. Maybe the local community college
has a photo class who needs a project since the reality is that you be ready
to shoot when each room is clean and un-occupied so it would take a few days
to get it done. Some of those kids are Photoshop Wizards 2nd Class and
higher.

Another option is to get some neutral density material to put on the windows
(knocks the light down by several "stops") then you can get it done in one
shot. Your local TV station would probably sell you a sheet or two.

Of course, the temperature is getting down to +6 degrees tonight, so you
might want to wear a light jacket when you get here...

A light jacket...two fleeces...a heavier jacket...a yak pelt...and my
overstuffed Eddie Bauer parka that has come to be known as "The Portable
Desert" (think Kenny on South Park...)

I do still make it back east during the winter (under duress from SWMBO) so
I haven't given up all my defenses against mother nature.

(Brrrrrrr)

Wow -- you bought a DVD burner, just for me?

;-)

Thanks a million, Vlado. And have a great Christmas holiday...
