Default Viggen armament question

One of my mates is building an AJ37 Viggen scale model and asked me if
I knew anything about the weapons usually mounted on the attack variant,
but I had to tell him I was buggered if I knew. After some research
with Google, I found out a chart by Urban Fredriksson that laid out
the Viggen armament.

Now, after seeing that list, I have a (perhaps) dumb question. The
ordnance charts list the Viggen as capable of carrying 16 125-kilogram
bombs on four plate-style MERs. Was this *really* the only type of
iron bomb cleared for the Viggen? Since each pylon could carry four
250-pounders plus the rack, they had to be stressed for at least 500
kilograms (~1,100 lbs) so it certainly wouldn't be a weight issue.
Did the Swedish Air Force just think bigger bombs were obsolete,
or did they simply think that a big "salvo" of 250-pounders would sort
any situation out? I could certainly think of situation where four
1,000-pounders could be much more useful than a lorry load of small
firecrackers...

Cheers,
-Stegu
