Default ASTM standards on light sport aircraft

Hmmm...the table of contents for this 83 page
publication has gyro, powered parachute, airplane, LTA...

but no gliders...

Sigh...it looks like this opportunity has passed.
It looks like Pipistrel won't be able to get an SLSA
certificate for anything, so no Pipistrel glider rentals...

And so much for the chance to import JAR-22 gliders
as SLSA, and rent them out. Looks like they'll still
be experimentals, with the program letters, etc.

Too bad. Everyone else showed up to the ASTM meeting
except the glider guys...

Even if gliders were presently included in LSA there is a problem keeping the
Pipistrels from qualifing for LSA; they come from Slovenia and Slovenia does
not have a bi-laterial airworthness agreement with the USA, so it would not
qalify for LSA anyway.

The LSA door is not closed to gliders. It is just that no one could be found to
fully see it through. But several people have worked on parts of it. It will
get done, just not right now.

And a bilateral will take years to get .... especially for a country with
little or no demonstrated history in the certification of aircraft.
