Need Help With GPS-NAV PC Software

DOS error 5 is a read only file error, have you checked
the file attributes ?

Failing that there are two Cambridge progs you might
run,can't remember in which order you do it

SYSINIT.EXE
REBUILD.EXE

or

REBUILD
SYSINIT

I'm moving from a Win 95/pentium computer to a Win 98/Celeron computer
and tried to install and run the GPS-NAV DOS software. The program
opens but when a function is selected it creates an error message. For
example, when opening Single Flights, the error message is:

Error DBFNTX/1001 Open Error NAVPOINT.DBF
DOS Error 5

The navpoint.dbf file is in the data and CAI folders. I copied the
complete CAI folder from the old to new computer first and it didn't
work. I then downloaded and installed the cai5884e.exe file from the
Cambridge website but it still created the same error message.
Everything works fine on the Win 95 computer. Help please!

Somehow your NAVPOINT.DBF file has been set to "read only". In File
Explorer, right click on the navpoint.dbf file, select Properties,
then clear the "read only" check box under Attributes. Your other data
files might have the same problem.

Thanks John and Eric! Both of you were right on. Deselected read-only
and everything works great. Glad to have this resource, even for
computer problems (of course, glider-related).
